On Wednesday, Fox News proposed a last-chance debate for Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. But don’t put any dates on your calendar, because it seems unlikely to happen.
After the proposed debate was revealed, Trump campaign manager Chris LaCivita was asked about the offer from the cable news channel. When asked if the former President would reconsider his previous stance that he wouldn’t participate in another debate, LaCivita responded “We haven’t, and we won’t.”
Those comments were echoed by Donald Trump on his Truth Social account Trump said that he won the first two debates — one against President Joe Biden and the other against Vice President Harris — and sees no need to debate a third time. He also claimed he accepted an invitation from Fox News to debate in September, which Harris declined. That, however, contradicts statements made by Fox News anchor Bret Baier, who asserted that Trump, not Harris, was the roadblock to getting a debate televised on the network.
“It is very late in the process, voting has already begun – there will be no rematch!” Trump wrote in all capitals on his social media platform. “Besides, Kamala stated clearly, yesterday, that she would not do anything different than Joe Biden, so there is nothing to debate.”
Fox News proposed two dates — Thursday, October 24th and Sunday, October 27th — for the candidates to make their final pitches to voters before Election Day on Tuesday, November 5th. The proposed event would take place in the battleground state of Pennsylvania.
Fox News anchors Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum were offered to the candidates as debate moderators.
