The Board of Directors of the New York State Broadcasters Association has announced its inductees for this year’s Hall of Fame class. New York Yankees broadcasters John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman, and WDOE sports director and morning show host Dan Palmer will be inducted on Friday, June 10, at a luncheon at the Conrad Hotel in New York City.
Sterling is nearing his 5000th consecutive Yankees broadcast. He began his career as a talk show host with WMCA in 1971. He was the radio voice for the WHA’s New York Raiders, the WFL’s New York Stars, the NHL’s New York Islanders, and the ABA/NBA’s New York/New Jersey Nets. This year marks Sterling’s 28th consecutive year calling Yankees games.
Waldman has spent the past three decades in broadcasting, and was the first voice ever heard on WFAN, the first all-sports radio station in the country. She was a mainstay there for 15 years. She has covered the NY Yankees and NY Knicks, worked for the YES Network, and been one half of the Yankees radio broadcast team since 2005.
Palmer has spent 45 years in broadcasting. He started his professional career in 1970 at WBUZ, and just celebrated 40 years at WDOE. He has broadcast the play-by-play of over 2,000 games of Chautauqua County high schools, youth sporting events, and Fredonia State University sports.
