- “Speak For Yourself” debuted yesterday on Fox Sports 1. The new program which features Colin Cowherd, Jason Whitlock, and Jason McIntyre of the Big Lead, airs weeknights at 6pm ET. As is to be expected, there were a few areas to improve upon, but Awful Announcing shared a thorough review of the show and called the first impression a solid one.
- Marc James is staying busy by filling in for Dave “Softy” Mahler in afternoon drive this week in Seattle on Sports Radio 950 KJR. James has worked previously in Atlanta, Miami, and Charlotte, and filled in for Jim Rome on the CBS Sports Radio Network in late March.
- Our congratulations go out to Marc Hochman, Channing Crowder, and Zach Krantz of WQAM. The afternoon trio known to local Miami listeners as “Hochman, Crowder, and Krantz” were named the market’s best sports radio show by the Miami New Times.
- Staying in Miami, according to the Herald, Fox Sports Florida has hired former big-league reliever Jeff Nelson as a pre-game and post-game analyst on Marlins games.
- 790 KRD in Louisville is adding a weekly soccer show to its on-air schedule. “Soccer City” will be hosted by Steve Peake, and air Saturday mornings at 9am. Peake previously spent time working as a host for 104.5 The Zone in Nashville, in addition to working in the front office for Louisville City FC, the city’s USL team. All Access was first to report this news.
- A tip of the cap to George Lapides who hosted his final “Sportstime” on WHBQ in Memphis. Lapides, began his adventure into hosting sports radio shows in 1971, and held the title of hosting the longest reigning sports radio show across the nation. He was dubbed the originator of sports talk radio in Memphis. His final show aired on May 31st. You can hear the audio by clicking here.
