Recently departed 790 The Ticket afternoon host and NBA writer Ethan Skolnick was arrested Wednesday. The 44-year old resident of Miramar, was charged with battering his 70-year-old father in Boca Raton, according to a police report.
Skolnick’s mother Shelly, called 911 around 11am ET to report that her son was punching his father, Louis, in the face and arms. Police had been called to the residence earlier in the day, when Skolnick’s estranged wife contacted police to check on him. The Miami sports media personality cooperated with authorities during that visit, but later “went nuts”, believing his parents had contacted the police.
The fracas resulted in a bloodied nostril and torn shirt for Skolnick’s father. He told police that his son punched him on the left side of his face and left arm, and a visible bruise on his arm was from a previous altercation one week earlier.
Following the incident, Skolnick was arrested and taken to the Palm Beach County Jail. He then appeared before a Palm Beach County circuit judge on Thursday morning, and was ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation.
Prior to this situation, Skolnick had kept a good profile in sports media circles. He previously worked for the Miami Herald, Sun Sentinel, Palm Beach Post and Bleacher Report. Recently he served as senior NBA writer for CBS Sports and hosted “The Ethan Skolnick Show” on 790 The Ticket. Skolnick though has been missing from 790’s airwaves since signing off from his show on July 31st. It’s unclear why he’s not been hosting his show.
