“Hello My Name is Craig,” Craig Carton’s new podcast went live Monday at 10am with an eight minute teaser episode. The podcast is available in the iTunes store and at hellomynameiscraig.com.
Last week Carton updated his Twitter profile, hinting that something might be coming soon. His first full episode will be released December 4th, almost exactly three months following his arrest on federal fraud charges which led to his departure from the popular Boomer and Carton morning show on WFAN.
Carton described himself entering the podcast world as “The return of the #1 rated local morning radio host in America.” During the eight minute teaser Carton did acknowledge, “this is not what I want to be doing, you know what I want to be doing,” referring to losing his “dream job” at WFAN.
The podcast will be weekly, with a new episode released each Monday. Carton will feature a different celebrity interview each week, which he described as someone who can provide a unique story of redemption or perseverance.
“I’m so thankful for all my family, friends and fans that have stuck with me and reached out, as well as to the podcast’s sponsor Adorama, as we start on this new journey. It feels great to be able to broadcast again and bring listeners stories of some amazing people who will talk about their journeys of determination, decisiveness, recovery, success and failure. I’ve missed doing it and am looking forward to bringing my perspective to the website everyday with some fresh content and the weekly podcast,” said Carton in a release.
During the eight minute teaser, Carton seemed to be his normal self, using familiar voices and a sense of humor fans of the Boomer and Carton show grew accustomed to. The former WFAN host told Newsday in an email that he has listened to his old show on occasion and did speak to his recently announced replacement, Gregg Giannotti. “I’ve known Gregg for a decade and wanted to wish him well,” Carton told Newsday. “I reminded him that he was working with some of the best guys in the business.”
Although Carton might be stepping out from his silence, he still has hurdles as he faces up to 45 years in prison. Carton pled not guilty to an indictment charging him with an alleged ticket resale Ponzi scheme on November 8th. His next court hearing is November 30th and no trial date has been set yet.
Carton concluded his eight minute teaser by saying “it feels good to be back.”
