Telemundo Scores Big in Mexico’s Win Over Germany

Telemundo is used to large audiences when the Mexican national soccer team is playing on the network, but the numbers it pulled in on Sunday may be truly unprecedented.

On the field, the Mexican National Team scored its first ever win over Germany at the World Cup. Off the field, Telemundo is celebrating the milestone it was in TV ratings. Mexico’s 1-0 win over Germany is the most watched Spanish language broadcast of a soccer game ever, surpassing a September 2009 Mexico match against Honduras. It is also the most watched group stage game featuring the Mexican team in any language since 1994.

The match drew a total of 7.4 million viewers across Telemundo, TelemundoDeportes.com, and the NBC Sports and Telemundo En Vivo apps according to Nielsen and Adobe Analytics. Telemundo’s television broadcast alone drew 6.56 million viewers.

Overall, Telemundo has averaged 2.33 million viewers for its daily World Cup coverage during the 2018 tournament in Russia. The combined audience, including digital viewership, has been closer to 2.5 million each day.
