KDKA, News Radio 92.3, David Santrella, Dan Mandis Receive 2024 Marconi Awards

News/talk stations were also well represented in other categories Tuesday evening, as several other stations and personalities took home honors.

News/Talk radio performed well at the 2024 Marconi Radio Awards. The annual event delivered by the National Association of Broadcasters saw three winners from the news/talk format.

First, the News Talk Station of the Year category belonged to Audacy Pittsburgh’s KDKA. The legendary Pittsburgh brand earned the honor over 95.5 WSB in Atlanta, 102.3 KRMG in Tulsa, 700 WLW in Cincinnati, and 93.1 WIBC in Indianapolis.

SuperTalk 99.7 WTN morning host Dan Mandis was also an award winner. The Nashville host landed the Large Market Personality of the Year award. Mandis was chosen over personalities from multiple formats. Nominees included Sean Copeland of WYXB-FM, Josh Holleman, Rachael Hunter and Steve Grunwald of WYCD-FM, Jason Matheson and Alexis Thompson of KTMY-FM, and MIX Mornings with Kyle, Bryan and Sarah from WRAL-FM.

Salem Media CEO David Santrella received the National Radio Award from NAB CEO Curtis LeGeyt. Salem’s top boss was acknowledged for his leadership, success, and commitment to the radio industry. Santrella credited his wife and staff for the success he’s enjoyed professionally.

News Radio 92.3 (WNRP) in Pensacola grabbed the top spot for Medium Market Station of the Year. Three other news/talk outlets were finalists for the honor. 930 WBEN in Buffalo, 1480 WHBC in Canton, and WTIB in Greenville.

Four of the five nominees in the Major Market Station of the Year Award were also from the news/talk space. The brands nominated included WTOP in Washington D.C., 1010 WINS in New York, KNX News in Los Angeles, and 77 WABC in New York. The award though went to sports station 1310/96.7 The Ticket in Dallas.

Other entities that were finalists but did not score victories were WBAL in Baltimore (Large Market Station of the Year), WTAW in College Station, TX (Small Market Station of the Year), and Kevin Miller from KIDO in Boise (Medium Market Personality of the Year).
